INVITATION – EXPERT CONTRIBUTION TO SPECIAL ISSUE OF SUSTAINABILITY JOURNAL: Faith and Sustainable Development: exploring practice, progress and challenges among Faith communities and institutions
We have pleasure in inviting you to be a contributor to the forthcoming special issue of Sustainability journal, which we are editing. The issue will focus on the role of faith communities and institutions in helping to put sustainable development goals, principles and practices into action worldwide. The special issue will appear in autumn 2023, in both online and book form. Details of the special issue and submission process can be found here:

Given the scale, reach and importance of religion as a social reality, engagement with and by people in faith communities and institutions is vital for the prospects for sustainable development. Now and in a near future where population growth will be concentrated in countries permeated by faith traditions - and developing new ones. Given that potential and significance for faith, as we head into a crucial decade for the UN Global Goals for Sustainable Development, for climate action and for biodiversity protection, it is timely to ask the central question at the heart of this special issue – how effectively can faith organizations and leaders ‘mobilize’ people for the tasks of sustainable development? For this special issue we are interested in perspectives from and on the major world faiths. Areas of particular interest include education and communication within faith communities; effective partnerships across faiths and with secular actors; finance and investment; development of action plans for climate and biodiversity goals; food and water security; land use; and action to implement the UN SDGs.
We’d be delighted if you would be keen and willing to contribute a paper, a commentary piece, a book review or an interview (with the editors) to this special edition. We would also be delighted to hear of any suggestions for other potential authors and/or topics you would like to see included.
The deadline for submissions is 1st September 2023. The publication will be open-access and we anticipate high levels of interest from contributors and academic and wider audiences. Sustainability is an excellent and well-established online journal (https://www.mdpi.com/journal/sustainability).
We very much hope you’ll be interested in taking part. Please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any queries.
With thanks.
Yours sincerely
